A Sad Story
Some weeks you just have to endure. Last week was one of those. It started early in the week when Chowin got upset about not being allowed to use the phone during English class. She has battled with devil possession a lot, which means that she is not exactly a stable person. Also, she has been on her own since she was around 6 or 7 years old, and has done just exactly what she pleased. Her manner of getting what she wanted was to beg or get angry or refuse to eat...those methods work great for the locals, but it does not work for us. We were very kind to her, but we did not let her use the phone. Poor Chowin did not know what to do, nothing she was doing was working and she had tried everything. Manipulation, threats, anger, refusing to eat, threatening to kill herself. She did not understand how badly we wanted to teach her a better way of living her life. After many days of this, Roy sat Chowin down and had a long talk with her. He asked questions, and carefully listened to her answers. She finally broke down and started talking. She said that she has no desire to be a Christian, she hates God since He expects her to obey. She hates us, since we also expect her to obey. She wants to be a lesbian, and already has a girlfriend which is why the phone was so important to her. She wants to destroy our home and was actively trying to get the other children on her side. Roy reasoned with her, and talked with her for a long time, but in the end, we had to leave the decision up to her. Even though this is the only family she has ever known that wanted her and loved her, she chose to leave so that she can do whatever she wants. She left, and I cried. It may be the only chance she ever gets for a better life, and she threw it away. If only we had been here when that little six year old had found herself without a home. If only someone had been there...Travis went to visit a remote village last week. The people there told him about a lady that I had met a couple of years ago. She recently died because of a lack of medical care. She had a little baby also. The Karen are afraid of the house of someone who dies, so they made the path take a wide detour around her house, and nobody, including her husband, would go near it. They were afraid to take the baby out of the house, and now the baby is also dead...due to neglect, not sickness. How long did that helpless baby have to suffer alone? If only I had been there...if only someone had been there! How long can God wait until He puts a stop to the suffering in this world? How must He feel when He sees His children doing nothing while claiming to be His ambassadors to a hurting world? How long can you enjoy the pleasures of this world while little babies die due to ignorance? Please, consider your role in finishing the work so that Jesus can come and end the suffering in this old world.
