Jack Of All Trades
What is a missionary? Well, it really depends on when you ask, and who you ask! But, since I am the one answering the questions, I will give it from my perspective. In the morning, a missionary is a student...sitting at the feet of Jesus, soaking up as much wisdom as I can get. At breakfast, I am a drill sergeant, making sure that Meme takes only ONE tablespoon of hopping-around-the-living-room-hot chilies per bowl of rice. I don't want an 8 year old to have gastritis! (much to her disgust) Next, I turn into a writer, trying to convey exactly what it is like to be a missionary in Thailand, while trying desperately not to scare anyone off! Next, I become a textbook writer, making out hard math papers for Seh Doe to figure out. Then, I become a linguist, trying to decipher exactly what this complicated line of soap bubbles playing leap frog is trying to tell me. Then, I become a washerwoman, scrubbing all that laundry by hand, making sure that no stains remain, or that at least they are clean stains...shortly thereafter, I become a meteorologist! Is it going to rain in the next 24 hours? Should I hang my clothing out in the sun, or put it safely under the roof of the well house? (I might add that I need a lot of practice in meteorology, since my poor blanket has gotten soaked every day for the past week) Next, I become either a taxi driver, or if I am blessed, a passenger, until I reach the market, where I become a private investigator, looking for great deals amidst widespread corruption. Upon arrival at home, I become a counselor to anyone in need, and there are usually many needs! Let me see...did I miss anything? Well, did I mention that I am Mom to at least 7 people all day, and wife to one person too? I am also a teacher every evening, making sure that everyone learns all they can during English time.I am also a nurse, doctor and EMT any time it is needed. So, if I were going to tell you what to study so that you can be a good missionary someday, what would I tell you? Hmmm....maybe just that you should spend a lot of time at the feet of Jesus, He can give you the heads up on everything else you need to know.
