The Camping Trip
We glided down the river in a long, narrow boat, with an expert boatman guiding our course through the winding channel. This day was long anticipated. Ever since we had moved here, I have wanted to go and see what it is like down the river, and at long last, my chance had come. The scenery was wild and beautiful, and the further we went, the more incredible it became. At last, our boat stopped right before a waterfall in the river. This was as far as boats can go this time of year. We piled out of the boat, grabbed our equipment and scrambled up the steep bank, waved goodbye to our boatman, and drank in the incredible beauty of the place.Roy and I began exploring right away, while the girls played in the sand. There was a little creek running down into the big river, and the water was crystal clear. Huge trees towered over us, creating a cool canopy of green. Our feet crunched fallen leaves as we hiked through the jungle, amazed at the stillness and solitude of the place. Soon, we came to the perfect spot to make our camp. The little creek sang as it made its way to the river, and birds joined in from the trees above. Money’s chattered in the distance…probably discussing our intrusion into their paradise.Soon, our camp was established, and we all headed to the big river for a bit of swimming. We made our way down to the thundering waterfall and found to our surprise, that it was a perfect spot for swimming. Huge boulders dotted the river, and in between them, pools of water with sandy bottoms invited us to come for a swim. There was even a kiddie pool for Destiny! To the side, a waterfall made its way into the river, and we discovered that it made a perfect Jacuzzi, and bathing spot. We spent hours playing in the water, and enjoying the grandeur of the place. When we finally got back to our camp, we found that there had been a visitor while we were gone. From all appearances, we think that it must have been a hungry monkey, although we never had the opportunity to verify our suspicions. Anyway, our food for breakfast was long gone, but not quite forgotten! Fortunately, the critter did not seem to have an appetite for plain rice, so we did not go hungry.Spending a night with nothing but a mosquito net between you and the jungle is an amazing experience. I enjoyed every moment of it since I was too cold to sleep. Next time, I intend to take more blankets!Unfortunately, the next day we had to head back to civilization, but we were all happy and refreshed from our time spent in the jungle.
