The Vacation English/Bible School

Cold rain poured from the sky as wet, bedraggled students made their way down the path towards the house. They looked anxiously at us, wondering what we would be like, while we looked anxiously at them, wondering what they would be like! One thing was for sure; they really wanted to be here or they would not have hiked all day in the rain to come.Because we have not finished the buildings that are needed to have a full time school, we came up with the idea of having short, intensive trainings during school vacations for interested students. We have not really advertised at all, but all Jason had to do was mention it to a friend and suddenly we had 8 students who could come right away. (16 had signed up, but only 8 were brave enough to face the long hike in the rain)Each day was packed with learning...from early morning worships, to phonics, vocabulary and conversational English, everyone was willing and eager to learn. Every evening, our house rang with music as Jason played his guitar and taught them to sing hymns in English.I don't believe that Satan was particularly happy about this event since one after another of us came down with the flu. I would lay in bed until it was my turn to teach, take some paracetamol to lower my temperature, then go to the classroom to teach. After class I would collapse in bed again. But somehow, God gave us strength to keep going day after day. After the first week, a second contingent of visitors came. This time it was Khen and Andrew, Khone, Sarah and Thomas, all from Cambodia. What a huge blessing they turned out to be! We had help with the teaching, and lots of enthusiasm. Khen and Khone soon had made fast friends of all the students and we had quite the lively group. Sarah started the girls on piano lessons and helped with the teaching.  My tiny house was bursting with 21 people. It was so nice to have 3 of my boys home at the same time. When Jason hiked with the students back to their homes, he was inundated with students wanting to sign up for our next training in March. It is clear to see that God is opening the way for us to reach the people here. Pray with us that we will be able to get the buildings finished, and that God would send us the help that we need.
